The Executive Assistant landscape is forever changing and the skillset required for working with top C Suite Executives and Senior Leaders is growing. We are seeing Executive Assistants taking on increased responsibility including management of projects, teams and stakeholders, just to name a few.
There are many high-level C Suite Executive Assistants and Senior Executive Assistants with the skill set to transition into a Chief of Staff role. This would provide Executive Assistants with a new career path ensuring they are engaged, committed, productive and driven for success in the business.
Often I speak to Executive Assistants who have “hit the ceiling” in their current careers. It is exciting to see this role hit our shores to take the Executive Assistant role to the next level. I look forward to seeing this role filter through Australian businesses recognising the value this type of role adds to an Executive, management and overall business success.
Chief of Staff vs Executive Assistant
The Chief of Staff role benefits Executives by having the support of a true advocate for the brand, driving forward ideas, keeping track of the broader picture, strategic direction, being their eyes and ears, sounding board for decision making, an extension of the Executive, acting on their behalf, attending meetings and being their chief advisor, strategic partner and overseer.
The Chief of Staff role would be a natural progression for experienced Senior and C Suite Executive Assistants. Many experienced high-level Executive Assistants are already performing at this level so watch this space as we see more Chief of Staff roles arise to reward and challenge Senior Executive Assistants.
